For the last several months, the casts of the spring musical production Kiss Me Kate have endured late-night rehearsals, perfecting the songs, choreography and lines.
The show’s director Bill McDonald, musical director Scott Bonasso and choreographer Victoria Arizpe (’86) have worked on the musical since November.
Kiss Me Kate, by Cole Porter, is a production within a production—musical inception.
Fred Graham (junior Justin Bernard) stars in his production of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew featuring his ex-wife, Lilli Vanessi (seniors Erin Granberry red cast and Hannah Worscheh for the black cast).
Graham pursues Lois Lane (seniors Monique Groen for the red cast and Carolyn Brooks for the black cast), another actress in his production. Then Lane’s gambler boyfriend, Bill Calhoun (senior Sam Burkett), enters the picture, creating a sort-of love rectangle.
As expected, chaos ensues when gangsters appear the opening night of the show after Calhoun signs an IOU in Graham’s name.
Kiss Me Kate performances begin with black cast’s shows on Thursday, February 28 at 7:30pm and Saturday, March 2 at 7:30pm and red cast’s shows on Friday, March 1 at 7:30pm and Saturday, March 2 at 2:30pm.
