A navy Jeep Liberty crashed on campus this morning at approximately 9:15 a.m., taking out two sections of the fence bordering Westheimer.
The driver, a 29-year-old male, had a seizure while driving, which led to the accident.
Senior Kristen Santiago was facing a window overlooking Westheimer and witnessed the crash.
“It looked like he clipped the curb and ran into the tree,” Santiago said. “The whole section of the fence just blew off, and he was seizing and hitting his head against the window.”
Students in Kimm Shafer’s Calculus class and Douglas Sharp’s Statistics class called 911. According to a post issued by the Advancement Office, the man “did not suffer life-threatening injuries” but was taken to the hospital.
By 1 p.m., the damaged section of the fence had been temporarily fixed. Head of Security Andrew Blitch plans on increasing security in the vicinity until the fence has been repaired.
