A huge chunk of white hot rock soared through the air above Chelyabinsk, Russia. Seconds later, around 9:20 AM local time on February 15, 2013, the meteor, estimated to be about 45 feet across and weighing 10,000 tons, exploded into hundreds of smaller fragments, shattering windows and destroying parts of buildings.
